Designed for scientists by scientists, this successful and entrepreneurial, San Diego based firm built powerful chemical and biologics search engines, then combined them with customized online ordering and integrated logistical controls to develop a fully integrated, industry-leading solution for Big Pharma. Their proprietary eCommerce platform equips their customers with the tools to buy research chemicals from around the globe with a few clicks, then easily track them to assure that these research chemicals and life science reagents arrive in the right format, purity and timing allowing their customers to focus on achieving their research objectives.

They are seeking a Director Chemistry Product Management who will have an extraordinary opportunity, translating their own chemistry research experience into activities and seeking an individual experienced in creating and selling chemistry products to lead the development of the product lines, our strategy and the customer experience.


The Director of Chemistry Product Management is responsible for creating a pipeline of products at various stages of the product life cycle and optimizing products that are on the market:

New Product Ideation (25%)

  • Conduct in person interviews of scientific end-users to gain insight into improvements to product design, validate new product ideas and identify pain points in current experimental processes
  • Attend conferences and meetings and to keep up to date with the latest scientific literature to keep abreast of the latest technology in the field of Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry
  • Present Validated Product Ideas to the Commercial team (Supply Chain, Operations, Sales) to gather feedback for creation of a Minimal Viable Product

Competitor and Market Analysis (20%)

  • Continuously analyze competitors and identify our unique value proposition (UVP) for each product idea
  • Identify areas where there are market gaps that match our areas of expertise

Product Development (25%)

  • Create the Product Road map for each assigned product and ensure that timelines and budgets are met (Project Manager for the development of the product)
  • Collect information from the Sales team for customer specific product specifications that match the UVP
  • Work with the Supply Chain, IT and Operations team to define operationally feasible product specifications that match the UVP

Marketing (20%)

  • Work with the Marketing Team to develop Brand Strategy and Marketing Plans
  • Member of Product Launch Teams to define product launch strategy and core positioning and messaging
  • Work with the Marketing team to create educational material for sales training, customer seminars, webinars, conferences and meetings

Business Development (10%)

  • Look for opportunities to partner with academic groups or technology companies to create new products with added unique value
  • Maintain BD database of prospective partners


Incumbents must demonstrate the ability to follow policies and procedures as established in the company Employee Handbook.  In addition, the education, experience, and other skills listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.


  • Masters or PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry


  • 5+ years’ experience working in a Pharma or Biotech company as a Medicinal Chemist or Process Chemist
  • 3+ years’ experience in a Commercial role (Sales, Marketing, Product Development/Management) with demonstrated success


  • Well-developed organization and time/project management skills
  • Strong focus on detail-orientation and follow-through
  • Team player (must be able to interact with many company functions: Sales, IT, Finance, Supply Chain)
