Our client was founded in San Diego in the late 80s, after developing a unique and proprietary inspection system utilizing smart cameras and patented technology.Their clients span the globe, installing their systems in North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. With a lean but highly technical and cutting edge team, their technology has continued to gain in stature through their in depth understanding of optics, lighting, and image processing, serving the rolled goods producers in the plastic film, nonwoven, paper and metals markets..


Our client is seeking an executive candidate to serve as the President. Following a recent sale of the business, the long-time President and co-founder is retiring and seeking a qualified replacement to assume responsibility for the San Diego based operation, serving the North American and European market. The successful candidate will be a self-driven, visionary candidate who is primarily focused on creating and delivering leading edge sales and marketing strategies 60%, while also leveraging his/her operational expertise 40%. The President will report directly to the parent company executive management team, and will be responsible for directing all company operations including sales and marketing, financial, engineering, RD and manufacturing activities. The principal focus of the new President will be to achieve top line growth and expansion of market share in North America and to collaborate with top management to define and implement a global strategy for company growth.

In this role, you will be

  • Executing and designing company sales and marketing strategies, making the vision real through effective management of the day-to-day activities
  • Creating and executing an integrated sales and marketing strategy that de-emphasizes reliance on repeat orders, and injects a focus on developing new business partners and customers
  • Achieving corporate goals in an efficient and timely manner, and within budget
  • Working with departmental leaders to enhance the operational assets of the company
  • Driving transformational change, owning key change initiatives
  • Leading and mentoring competent, collaborative and technically savvy teams comprised of industry leading experts, international employees and strategic professionals
  • Recruiting and retaining key employees
  • Fostering company culture of excellence and collaboration, rather than command control, emphasizing quality and service over speed
  • Communicating effectively both up and down the organization and to the parent company

You will exceed in this role if you possess

  • A high energy personality with a get it done attitude
  • A track record growing sales in a lean, legacy, $5m-$25m company in a leadership position
  • Successful history of collaborating with senior management to research, develop and implement market growth strategies
  • International experience in the products sector, with a particular focus in Europe, would be a distinct advantage
  • Proven ability to migrate from a business based almost exclusively on repeat orders, to a more blended sales approach that emphasizes net new business
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate a compelling company vision while motivating employees and holding them accountable to company-wide and departmental goals and objectives
  • A successful history of leveraging outstanding service and sales support as a key differentiator in the industry
  • An empowering and engaging approach to managing across all departments and functions, leveraging the seniority and domain expertise of each employee
  • Sales and marketing experience in the industrial products sector is essential (experience in the machine vision, testing, optical or rolled goods sector would be a distinct advantage)
  • Ideally 15+years overall experience with 5-10 years in management roles with progressive responsibilities
  • Recent, hands on experience managing, developing, training and hiring a sales and marketing organization, while developing marketing strategies
  • Exposure to factory automation concepts and implementations embodied in the Industry 4.0 model
  • Ideally has plastics background
  • BA in Business/Marketing; MBA a plus
