With roots dating back to the early 1990s, our client is a financing company based in San Diego and provides alternative lending solutions to businesses across a variety of industries. Working primarily with companies in the western U.S., they offer a wide range of financing services to organizations from start-up to $25 million in revenue. With many legacy clients, and a high percentage of repeat and referral clients, they provide exceptional customer service and offer straightforward pricing, flexible terms, and expedited approvals.

They have been experiencing significant growth over the past 2 years and looking to continuing this growth trend into the future. The Senior Leadership Team is looking for the right business development candidate that will contribute to the overall success of the team and help take the company to the next level of success. Job Duties:

The new Business Development Manager, while reporting to the EVP, will be responsible for leading all San Diego and southern California sales efforts for the company. The successful candidate will carry a sales budget that will incorporate originating volume in multiple verticals. The optimal goal is to have this individual cultivate relationships (direct/indirect) where he/she will surpass sales goals by closing regional and local clients ensuring that Primary Funding becomes the incumbent lender of choice.

In this role, you will be able to:

  • Lead all direct and indirect sales activities, which will include building a significant pipeline, sourcing new prospects through business banking and related channels, presenting their suite of solutions, negotiating terms and securing contracts to close net new business
  • Collaborate with senior team to form a front-end strategy to deliver overall business development plan
  • Work closely with senior leadership team to ensure we as a business are addressing client requirements
  • Maintain a solid working knowledge of the competitive landscape
  • Meet and ultimately exceed sales objectives/budget
  • Work closely with Operations Management to ensure sales entitlement is achieved over time
  • Lead/Participate in specific vertical marketing activities which will include trade-shows, in person networking events and other face to face conferences

The candidate must possess:

  • 5+ years experience in selling financial solutions or professional services (minimum of 3 in the San Diego market)
  • Verifiable network of relevant contacts at the business banking, professional services, CFO, Business Owner or CEO level within San Diego
  • Proven track record of surpassing sales budgets, while calling on regional or local clients
  • The attributes of a Self-starter, internally motivated drive, and an ability to work and thrive within a small team environment
  • An ability to effectively interact with Executives, but can adapt easily to specific audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • A personality where you enjoy networking activities, meeting new people and developing relationships
  • You will thrive in this role if you also possess:
  • An ability to effectively deliver on commitments with limited resources
  • Demonstrated track record of gathering market intelligence, articulating the unique solutions to small businesses, and delivering on budgets
  • Experience balancing customer needs, business capabilities and margin to deliver strong results
  • An ability to be organized in your sales efforts
  • A command of the sales process (including pipeline management)
  • Some prior underwriting experience in the business banking industry is a plus
