Director of Revenue (Relocation Available)

Reporting to the VP of Revenue and Deal Desk, this newly created position is a critical and highly visible role. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in revenue recognition accounting, and strong understanding of accounting consequences of terms of sales contracts. This individual will support the "quote-to-cash" cycle, review and approve non-standard terms per the company's policies, and ensure all sales contracts are accounted for under U.S. GAAP. An important aspect will be identifying and implementing process improvements in the quote-to-cash cycle to minimize friction while supporting the company's order acceptance and revenue policies. The successful candidate will be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment, interacting with our sales department during the quote and customer negotiation process, and with accounting department colleagues post-sales.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage the revenue recognition and accounting aspects of the quote to cash business processes
  • Understand business drivers and requests for non-standard terms, and their effect on financial results to assist in attaining the best accounting and business outcome
  • Participate in contract negotiation in collaboration with sales, legal, and business operations (deal desk) teams
  • Ability to resolve complex accounting problems with minimal supervision
  • Evaluate multi-element, multi-year sales contracts, documenting analyses to support revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 605, ASC 985, as well as ASC 606)
  • Participate in discussions with business stakeholders to develop recommended changes to and support the deployment of company's sales process and policies or revenue recognition policy
  • Actively drive revenue related process improvement initiatives
  • Act as a liaison with IT/Business Systems for IT system updates supporting sales and accounting processes
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit team to establish and ensure compliance with SOX requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 4+ years with a Big 4 public accounting firm ideal
  • 5+ years’ experience with revenue accounting within a public company in software or technology industry
  • Strong technical accounting background (revenue focus) required. Experience with ASC 606 a plus
  • Excellent written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross functionally
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience building out a team
  • Very high attention to detail
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, and prioritize contending workloads
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and NetSuite preferable, but not required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels
