Executive Director of Marketing

Scope and Responsibility:

The Executive Director of Marketing will work closely with corporate leaders, the business development team and studio principals to position the company brand nationally as experts in the planning and design of residential, retail, hospitality and mixed-use environments. Additionally, the Executive Director of Marketing will be responsible for diversifying the company’s brand into other sectors as defined by the board of directors. 

The Executive Director of Marketing will be responsible for developing the Marketing Department Objectives, Goals, Strategies, and specific plans to enable the company to achieve the goals established in its three-year strategic plan.

In this position, the balance between collaboration and leadership is key to success, as the Executive Director of Marketing will lead a team of marketing professionals responsible for supporting the marketing and communications needs of Corporate and the six studios across the country. 


  • Develop and drive the execution of annual marketing plans that clearly enable the company to achieve its strategic goals
  • Understand the overall company brand vision and develop branding strategies to establish the company as an expert in the markets we serve 
  • Responsible for consistently portraying the company brand message across platforms and constituencies
  • Oversees all creative projects for the company including content creation, graphic design and photography, web content, and social media efforts
  • Lead the development and proactively manage the National Marketing budget
  • Manage and mentor the Marketing Staff
  • Develop relationships with the Principals in each Studio to understand their needs, the needs of their clients and aspirations for their studios
  • Work with architects, business development partners and Studio staff to develop strategic messaging and themes that will be reflected across the entirety of the company’s marketing collateral
  • Ensuring the RFQ/RFP process is optimized to deliver high quality deliverables on time to clients
  • Build and lead the marketing department toward becoming a lead generation machine and capture important market opportunities
  • Lead the marketing integration of new services into the company brand
  • Lead the Marketing due diligence in any future M&A efforts

Reporting Structure:

This role reports to the CEO, while collaborating with the National Development Director.

Direct Reports include: Brand Manager, Proposal Manager and Director, Creative Services

The Executive Director of Marketing oversees all internal and external marketing communications and implements the Company’s marketing strategies quickly, flexibly, and proactively. The focus is that all marketing communications will promote awareness of the Company’s products and services and respect.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Understand and foster the “voice” of the company, identifying the role of the brand in the marketplace, and maximizing the Company’s impact 
  • Field all media inquiries and quarterback damage control
  • Expand the tangible brand by planning and executing events, primarily at the project/experiences level
  • Proactively expand national awareness of the Company’s services and thought leadership
  • Increase contacts and pitches to thinktanks, journalists, bloggers, conventional news outlets, industry influencers
  • Attend conferences, conventions, annual meetings, and job fairs
  • Organize and participate in speaking engagements, panel discussions, and Op-eds
  • Proactively make recommendations to leadership on strategies regarding:
    • The Company’s online footprint, mentions, reputation
    • Current events that possess wide-ranging interest and “shareability”
    • Industry topics and rumors
    • Insider info on competition and local industry trends
  • Manage the Marketing Department resources
  • Ensure the team maximizes the presence of all the Company and subsidiary businesses on all platforms, with a heavy focus on industry leadership
  • Ensure the team updates and maintains the corporate website, which may include the creation of blog posts and overall SEO management
  • Research, select, and manage any third party or agency used to support the Marketing Department
  • Ensure the team proactively shares key go-to-market news across the company

Background Required:            

The successful candidate will be a highly creative and seasoned senior marketing executive who intimately understands how to own a brand, create the customer journey and strategically leverage the company in the marketplace. Must have a minimum of 10 to 15 years of marketing experience with product positioning, revenue building strategies and a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.

Specific knowledge and expertise should include:

  • Be a proven and creative marketing leader, capable public speaker, and a generally optimistic person who sees opportunities where there presumably are none
  • Have a professional “eye” for aesthetics and persuasive design as it relates to business development materials like ads, sales brochures, and presentations
  • Be a remarkably proactive professional who is comfortable with challenging leadership about new ways of thinking about the company’s marketing approach and overall connection and relations to the public

Education Required:   

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Management, or a related field.
